I think play-dough is awesome. I love it. Mostly because it is the one thing my kids will spend a long time working with. And the house becomes calm and quiet, until they start throwing it of course.
I know there a bajillion recipes out there for play-dough. But here is my problem, they never seem to make enough. So here is my recipe that makes a boat load of play-dough. Enough so the kids have plenty to work with and share with their friends.
This would also be a great holiday gift for kids. It’s cheap, they will love it, and then their parents don’t have to feel bad about throwing it out after a few uses.
3 cup flour
1 1/2 cup salt
3 cup water
3 Tablespoon oil
6 teaspoons cream of tartar
Food coloring by drops till you reach your desired color. I use a lot. I like my play-dough to be bright!
1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot and mix with electric mixer. Cook over low heat, mixing until it sticks together and resembles mashed potatoes.
2. Allow to cool, divide dough into different balls to make different colors.
3. Optional add-ins are a few drops of essential oils to increase the sensual experience. And if you want to kick it up one further you can add uncooked rice, dried lentils or dried beans to add to make the texture interesting.
4. Store in covered container.
AND DON’T TELL YOUR KIDS NOT TO MIX COLORS. What fun is that? Stop being a control freak and let them mix to their hearts delight. You can always make more.
