How To Make an Old Fashioned

old fashioned

Maybe it’s my Kentucky roots or my obsession with all things vintage, but this is my drink! This is what I like to order when I have my nails done and want to feel like a grown-up. And if cigarettes weren’t so horrible I would smoke one while I drank this and pretend for a moment I lived in my grandmothers world of A-line skirts, red lipstick and high heels.

And I just recently learned how to make it at home!

2 Oz Rye- I like using Bullet, Knob Creek, or the newly discovered Trader Joes Kentucky Bourbon
1/2 Oz simple syrup
2 Dashes Angostura bitters
Orange peel

Simple Syrup Directions:

Boil 1 cup water with 1/2 cup syrup until dissolved.
I tossed in some orange peel to add some flavor.

In a chilled glass half full of ice combined whiskey, bitters and simple syrup and stir until chilled
