Chili season is upon us, and this makes me wild with excitement. I love football, chilly nights, crisp apples, and cozy sweaters! Forget that I live in Phoenix, and this doesn’t happen until January. But like everyone else here in the “Valley of the Sun”, we pretend. I crank my AC down on Sundays, grab a blanket and pretend I am not sweating as I watch the Bengals get beat.
I made my first batch of chili this year and in my rush to get started I realized that I didn’t have any chili seasoning in the pantry. Since my meat was already browning I did what anyone would do to see how I could fudge chili without the “packet”. And I learned that I could make my own!
I finished making my chili with my own seasoning, and everyone at the table had seconds! It worked. So I will pass this on to you, because it’s so incredibly easy.
1/3 cup Chili Powder
1 Tbs Salt
1.5 Tbs Garlic Powder
2 Tbs Cumin
1 Tbs Basil
Combine in a bowl. Store in a cute jar. When it’s time to use 3 Tablespoons of the mix = 1 packet of the store-bought seasoning.
There are many seasoning recipes out there, I made a Pinterest board of other seasoning recipes I have found. But I urge you to use your imagination and get creative with your taste buds! It’s super fun.
